Frequently Asked Questions
ShareMyGame.com is operated by SIMMER.io. Most of the items in the FAQ below cover both sites.
My Upload isn't working! Help!
  • You need to use Unity 2017.1 or later. Newer is almost always better.
  • Upload the WebGL build folder and not the project folder. No need to zip! Just drag the folder into the browser.
  • Use a modern browser, preferably Chrome or Firefox. Folder uploads don't work properly on older browsers.
  • Does your upload work locally when you click Build & Run?
  • Are there any errors on the Javascript console that might help you out?
    • Out of memory error? Try setting your build to use WebAssembly (see "Memory" in the linked article).
  • Are you using "filenames as hashes" in the Unity WebGL player settings? This is not supported on our platform.

If none of that helps you, send us a message at support@simmer.io. For best results, include:

  • Game URL
  • Unity version
  • Feel free to send us your WebGL build in whatever is most convenient for you (Dropbox, Google Drive, etc)
  • Browser type and version
  • SIMMERconnect (paid) subscriber?
Does SIMMER claim any rights to my game?

Definitely not! You own and control everything about your game! If you do add a game set to "public" on our platform, we may use images and screenshots from it in our marketing materials.

You are welcome to upload your game here and to as many other sites as you'd like!

How can I make money with SIMMER?

You can add a tip jar to your games with Paypal.me. You can access the tip jar setup at your profile page.

Where is my content published? What is the SIMMER network?

Your profile may be visible on any of the sites on the SIMMER network (currently SIMMER.io and sharemygame.com).

If you share your game to SIMMER.io, your game will only be visible on SIMMER.io. If you publish your game to another site on the SIMMER network, you will be able to choose whether to also share on SIMMER.io when you upload your game.

You can use the same login on any site in the SIMMER network.

How do I get my game onto the front page?

We welcome all games, whether you're a seasoned developer or brand new to development!

I personally go through the games once a week, and try to play them all. But with more and more content on the site, you need to try and stand out a bit. Here are some tips:

  1. Make sure that your game is set to public.
  2. Have a great screenshot. We automatically collect screenshots, but you also can add your own.
  3. Have a decent description that includes a paragraph about your game and how to control the game.
  4. Make sure your game is a reasonable download size.
  5. Send your friends or audience to check out the game. Post about it on forums or Facebook groups. A good signal for me is the number of views on the game (which I check in my analytics dashboard pretty often).

Honestly, the bar isn't terribly high to get on the front page--just fill out the forms nicely! I'll give your game a try and leave some feedback.

Did I miss your great game? Feel free to email me if you think your game should be on the front page, but no guarantees.

I found a bug or have a feature request.

Great, your help finding bugs and requesting features is appreciated! Say hello on discord or send us a support email, and we'll see if what we can do. Screenshots and detailed steps are appreciated!

What is a public game vs an unlisted game?

When you upload a game, you choose whether to make it public or unlisted.

Public games are listed in search and the "latest games" page, and I will put them on the front page if they're good enough.

Unlisted games are hidden from search engines but anybody with the URL can access them. I'm considering a feature for truly private games (requiring invites and a login), and that feature will likely be paid.

How can I embed games on another site like Wordpress, Kickstarter, Medium, or Patreon?

For sites where you have access to HTML, you simply click the "embed" button (looks like (<>) on the bottom right corner of your live game). This will give you an embed code to insert into your HTML.

On sites like Medium that support OEmbed, you can simply paste the URL of your game (ex: https://simmer.io/@TheRoccoB/flappy-bird-style), and it will auto expand into a live game.

On other sites like Patreon and Kickstarter, you can try using the "embed video" feature and pasting a URL (ex: https://simmer.io/@TheRoccoB/flappy-bird-style). On some sites this will work, and on others it won't. If you're having trouble with a particular site, feel free to email us to see if there is a solution.

I love SIMMER, how can I support you guys?

The #1 thing you can do is tell your friends about the site! Like our Facebook, follow our Twitter, and subscribe to our YouTube channel.

Other ideas: If you have an email list, we'd love to get a shout out. Blog about your game and link back to us. Add a link in your game back to the SIMMER website! Make a youtube video / review about our service.

If you want to buy me a coffee, a burrito, or a Nintendo Switch, I certainly won't turn you down!

You can buy my course, Unity + WebGL the Ultimate Guide on Udemy for over 90% off ($10.99). Proceeds from course sales help supplement my income so that I can run this site.

You can also send me an email with something nice to say to brighten my day!

Can anybody embed my game on their site?

Yes. There are plans to limit embeds to certain sites (like your own), but this will be a paid feature.

Can I embed games from another site onto SIMMER?

Yes, but only on SIMMER.io and not other sites in the SIMMER network. See Share Game From a URL

Do you support engines other than Unity?

Not yet, but I would love to support other engines in the future.

There is also a feature where you can embed games from sites onto SIMMER.io (and only SIMMER.io, not other sites on the SIMMER network). Go to Share Game From a URL to use this feature.

I need help figuring something out in Unity.

You can try and email our support, but generally, my rule of thumb is, that if you're having a problem locally that does not occur on SIMMER, I'll usually refer you to Unity Answers or Unity Forums for help

How do I test my game locally?

A simple "Build and run" from Unity works fine. But if you want to fire up you own local server, keep reading.

If you have python 2 you can use this trick to start a local server to serve files, or use Python 3.

There are also various node.js modules that let you serve files statically. You can watch the (free) intro lessons to my Unity WebGL course on Udemy to learn how to do this.

My game runs slow or crashes on mobile.

Sadly, Unity WebGL was not designed with mobile devices in mind, but there is a new "Tiny Mode" coming to Unity that does well with mobile WebGL. Watch an introduction video here: First Look, Project Tiny or read our Blog post.

Are Unity Project Tiny / Tiny Mode projects supported?

Soon. Got something you want to share? Email support@simmer.io and we'll try to get the game up on the site.

Who runs the site?
My name is Rocco Balsamo, and I do almost everything for the site. I was a professional game developer for the first half of my career, and I switched to web development about halfway through. Google my name for more details.
Can I upload games with adult content (nudity, sexual content)?

No. Sorry, but I want to keep this site PG-13.

How does SIMMER make money?

We don't make a lot of it yet (LOL, or more accurately CQTMS - Crying Quietly to Myself). We're looking to build out some premium features for developers and help them with ad integrations and monetization in the future.

Occasionally some of our links may be affiliate links for products and services that the SIMMER audience may be interested in.

How come you're sending me emails?
Because you opted in to emails.
My game isn't showing up in the search results.
It takes up to 12 hours for our indexer to add games to the search results.
How do I delete my account?
Go to your profile and there will be a "delete account" button at the bottom.
Are you GDPR compliant?
